My name is Monika and I am the face and hands behind Monika Hanulikova Ceramics.
I come from the beautiful area of Wallachia, in the Czech Republic, and it is there that I first came to contact with clay. To begin with, I started modelling but just couldn’t keep my eyes off that pottery wheel sitting in the corner. However, it wasn’t until a few years later, when I moved to England, that I got to learn how to use it, by attending evening classes. It was there I started hand painting my black and white designs.
Almost 20 years later on, my partner and I have decided to ditch our office jobs and move with our two sons to Andalucia. We fell in love with a 200 year old cortijo, which is surrounded by olive groves and vineyards, and it is here, in my garden workshop, where I make my pots.
I spend most of my time on the potter’s wheel but whenever I need a bit of a change I make some sculptures, usually sheep. 🙂
I currently use earthenware for my hand-painted range and stoneware for my day to day use range, which is decorated with simple patterns and glazed white.
